Mike McGowan

Michael McGowan is a distinguished and highly sought-after trumpet player based in the Metro Detroit area, renowned for his versatile performances across classical and commercial genres. His deep ties to the region’s premier musical institutions are evident through numerous appearances with the esteemed Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, and Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings.

Beyond the classical stage, McGowan’s commercial credits are extensive. He has been a fixture in the pit orchestras for touring Broadway shows at iconic Detroit venues including the Fisher Theater, Masonic Temple, and Detroit Opera House. His career highlights also include sharing the stage with an illustrious roster of musical legends, demonstrating his adaptability and wide appeal. He has performed alongside The Moody Blues, Neil Sedaka, Michael Feinstein, Kristin Chenoweth, Burt Bacharach, and Dionne Warwick, among others.

As a principal orchestral musician, McGowan holds the Principal Trumpet positions with both the Dearborn Symphony and the Rochester Symphony. His expertise and leadership are frequently sought after by other orchestras, leading to numerous guest principal trumpet engagements with ensembles such as the Ann Arbor Symphony, Flint Symphony, Saginaw Symphony, and Jackson Symphony. Committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians, Michael McGowan also serves on the faculty at Wayne State University and he serves as vice president of the Detroit Federation of Musicians.
