40 years later, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings re-creates its first concert together

“BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Before the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings was what it is today, it was a group of friends who just wanted to play the music they enjoyed together.

On March 6, the DCWS celebrated its 40th year by remaking its first official concert in “Opus 1 – Rewind to the Beginning.”

Maury Okun, Kevin Good, Victoria King and John Snow were the four founding musicians of the DCWS. Okun is now the president of the group.

They all found themselves moving from the Chicago area to Detroit for different reasons, and each became successful in their own way. Eventually, they got to talking about how they missed playing the type of music they had played in college, a time when rehearsals were free and there was a large number of musicians available….
