Legacy giving in an important way for donors to make a significant and last impact on Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings. Join the 22nd Century Society by including DCWS in your will or trust. If you would like to let us know that you have included DCWS in your giving plans, or if you would like information on how to do so, please contact Jaime Kannan, Director of Development at 248-559-2095 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Two of our 22nd Century Society donors are profiled below:
TOM HITCHMAN, a GM executive, added DCWS to his estate planwhen he was stationed in Egypt some ten years ago. Tom had beenintroduced to DCWS by Randy Safford, and as an avid trumpet player,he held a special affinity for DCWS. In transitioning from a simple willto a more thorough estate plan, Tom wanted to make his intentionsclear to his survivors to lessen any stress in implementing his wishes. His goal was to leave a stamp on DCWS when he is gone, but also togive a clear message to others in his confidence in the organization’slong-term viability.
PAT & DICK SCHWING have been long-time DCWS supporters.About five years ago, Dick ran into Art Blair at Birmingham Unitarian Church, where they both were members. Dick told Art that he had made a decision to establish a charitable gift annuity for Birmingham Unitarian Church. Art responded that Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings also had a charitable gift annuity option. So Dick, who was then in his early 70s,established a Charitable Gift Annuity at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan that benefits both DCWS and BUC. The proceeds willeventually be divided according to the Schwing’s wishes, and in the meantime, he and Pat receive a healthy rate of return on the annuity while receiving some major tax savings.
