Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings Celebrates the Season with Area Choirs at Annual Holiday Brass Concert

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.(November 13, 2013) – Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings (DCWS) will be joined by area high school choirs for Holiday Brass, their annual concert of seasonal favorites on Sunday, December 8 and again on Sunday, December 15. The Stoney Creek High School Choir from Rochester Community Schools will join DCWS on December 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak at 3:00 p.m. Macomb’s Dakota High School Choir will appear with DCWS on December 15 at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts will begin with a sing-along led by the choirs 45 minutes prior to the start of the performance.

“Stoney Creek and Dakota choirs were chosen based on their excellent choral reputations,” says DCWS Executive Director Maury Okun. “We’re thrilled to have these choirs and that we’re able to give local students a chance to perform with professional musicians. Audience members can expect a performance that is unique, entertaining and musically exquisite.”

The choirs will help kick off the concerts with “Resonemus Laudibus,” a 14th century European hymn, and the “Wenceslas Suite,” based on the traditional carol “Good King Wenceslas.” The choirs will also help close the concert with “Joy!,” a rousing and inspiring tune.

DCWS will perform a number of instrumental works including “Adestes Fideles,” and “Magnificat,”also known as the Song of Mary, is an ancient Christian hymn whose name comes from the first word of the Latin version of the canticle’s text.

The concert will conclude with two works specifically arranged for DCWS the soulful “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and the ever rousing “Sleigh Ride.”

Tickets for Holiday Brass are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors (60 and older) and $10 for students. To purchase tickets, please call (248) 559-2095 or visit the DCWS website atwww.detroitchamberwinds.org. Ticket prices will be $5 more at the door.
